Band of the Month

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Band of the month, this month is: Fleet Foxes! Seth introduced them to Mariah and I, and now we can’t stop listening. They sound like something between The Shins and Rouge Wave and the lead singer KINDA looks like Boyd.

Here is their myspace:

Commitment

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Something I have been wanting to do for a long while is to do a photo blog every day for a month. That is a lot harder than it seems when you don’t have internet at home, not to mention are consistently very busy. Sooooo instead of doing a photo blog EVERY day I am committing to instead doing a POLAROID photo blog every other day (that means I have to do a lot of scanning).

So to start off this commitment, I am posting some pictures of my most recent commitment!

We had two photographers at the wedding, both friends (Wayde Stover and Dana Halferty). Wayde was running all-instant film with 3 cameras and an assistant film-peel-aparter, Scott. Mmmm goodness. These are just a few from the many, many of Polaroids.

More pictures to come! (don’t forget, subscribe to the blog if that’s your style)

Band of the month: Old Canes

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Old Canes; this months band of the month! If you’ve ever heard of the Appleseed Cast, Old Canes is headed by singer from that other awesome band. This is super fun and upbeat indie folk music. And if you don’t like “folk” music, don’t let that word scare you away. It’s REALLY good. Give it a listen! They also have a new album coming out on the 20th. I’ve been waiting 5 years for it! Download a free MP3 from there new album HERE, from this website.

Also, check out there last album, it’s super good too!

And of course, you always have to supply the bands myspace, which has tour dates (they just went on tour).

Band/Album of the month!

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

So I have been wanting to start a Band/Album of the month. So for the kick off, I will start with May’s album of the month “Keep No Score” by Sleeping At Last, one of my all time favorite bands. Yes I know, it is May 31st, but I wanted to anyway. The band is giving away their album this month for free, so I had to let you all know! I will have more bands in the future with more free music. So enjoy this for now and keep an eye out for June’s band of the month!

FREEDOM!!!!

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Just a moment ago, with a click of a button, I submitted my last assignment. Done with finals, done with homework, done with this semester, and done with college. Done with school! DONE!

As non-grandiose as an associate’s degree is there is something epic about being done with 15 (I think) years of school.

With a two year degree “backup plan” under my belt, I move onto bigger and better things.

A few reflections on my 2 year Business Administration degree:
1. They don’t teach you how to do business in college, they only teach you about business.
2. Focus is put considerably more on large scale business than small. They are really aiming to set you up to work for a business, not run one. Sad.
3. Experience is worth a thousand times more than schooling.
4. School is the most depressing thing ever. Well ok, not really, but I’d much rather be spending my time doing something productive.
5. 2 year degree at community college = DEBT FREE!

I hear that usually after college people venture out to try and land a job in their field. In my case, I already have a sweet job, and not in Business Admin. It has been a huge blessing as it is quite enjoyable and probably worth as much as another schooling degree in the video industry. If you haven’t heard about my regular day job here is the low down: I work for SMI (Simply Michele, Inc.), which is a company centered around growing TV celebrity Michele Beschen.

The brand is a DIY/how-to TV-show-producing company, something comparable to Martha Stewart except more hip with a younger demographic. Michele currently has 2 shows on TV. You may have seen them before. They are “B Original” on DIY Network, and “Courage to Create” on HGTV. We are currently finishing up our new TV series “B Organic” that will be airing on public television. As for me, I don’t have a very specific job description, except I am 1 of 3 guys doing all the media work, which is always a team effort. On set, I do audio work, grip work, and am sort of the backup cameraman (in other words, I get to shoot b-roll). Off set, I do a handful of tasks in the office. I am our web master (recently working on www.borganic.net), video editor, video engineer (I get to trouble shoot super technical video stuff), audio editor, graphic designer, photographer, and probably more stuff that I can’t think of off the top of my head. Basically, it’s an all around sweet job, and very similar to what I do for Save Deth. Check out this page for some behind-the-scene shots. I’m only in a few pictures because I took most of the others.

In recent news at SMI, Michele has been on the Rachel Ray show 3 times in the last 2 months and twice on Good Morning America (GMA) since December. She will be on GMA again for a third time this Saturday (May 9th) on ABC 8AM EST. The segment will be about a room make-over we did/shot last Friday. I got to use my two DVX cameras to shoot time lapse for the segment, hopefully they’ll make the cut, haha (ABC edited our footage).

On a side note, check out the sweet wall mounts I got to build for my cameras:

Oh, and here are some pics from the shoot:

You can currently watch Michele’s latest GMA segment here, titled “$35,000 Handbag Vs. $35 handbag”.

You can also watch a handful of our other videos here. If you are interested, I personally got to edit the “Paint DVD Trailer” and the “Company Snapshot”.

If you want, you can check out SMIs main website, CourateToCreate.com

Sooo….. Now that I am done with school, I wont have homework hanging over my head after “work,” and I will be able to devote more time to Save Deth. YES!
